Replacing Existing Patent Glazing

How surveys, retained components, temporary works and sequencing shape a successful replacement project.

How surveys, retained components, temporary works and sequencing shape a successful replacement project.

Establish what is present

A survey should record geometry, bar centres, glass, drainage paths, flashings, supports, interfaces and visible deterioration. Access constraints and the condition of adjacent construction also affect the works package.

Decide what can be retained

Replacement may range from selective reglazing to a complete new system. Retaining components can reduce disruption, but only where their condition, compatibility and remaining service life support the proposed solution.

Plan for exposure

Removing existing glazing exposes the building. Sequencing, temporary weather protection, lifting, waste handling and work-area segregation should be developed before site work begins.
