Technical guidance

TN66 / TN67 and Roof Glazing

A practical starting point for discussing industry guidance, glass selection and roof-glazing risk with the project team.

Guidance must be read in context

Technical notes are useful reference points, but they do not replace project-specific design. Building use, glazing angle, access, consequence of breakage, supporting system and specification all need to be considered together.

Coordinate responsibilities early

The architect, structural engineer, glazing designer, principal contractor and specialist subcontractor each hold relevant information. Early coordination is more effective than attempting to resolve glass, support and access questions after procurement.

Record the agreed approach

The selected glass build-up, system, assumptions and maintenance limitations should be recorded in the project information and carried through to handover.

Discuss the project

Every building, opening and glazing package is different. This guidance is general and should be checked against the requirements, current standards and competent design information for the specific project.
