Rooflights & Atriums were appointed to undertake the replacement of three substantial northlight roof glazing sections at the former Wold Lamp Factory in Sheffield.

Each northlight extended approximately 30 metres in length, providing a combined 90 linear metres of replacement roof glazing.

The project involved replacing the ageing glazing with a modern Lonsdale patent glazing system, preserving the distinctive sawtooth roof profile while improving weather resistance, durability and natural daylight transmission.

The Challenge

Refurbishing large-scale industrial northlight glazing presents several technical and logistical challenges, particularly when working with existing roof structures.

The replacement glazing needed to integrate with the original roof geometry and supporting structure while providing reliable long-term weather protection.

Careful consideration was also required around installation sequencing, access arrangements and the interface between the new patent glazing and surrounding roof coverings.
